Middle School ELA, Math, Science & Social Studies Teacher

Creative STEAM Academy | Laguna Woods, CA
Part-Time | On-Site | 2–4 Days per Week | 5th–8th Grade Learning Center

Teach Without Walls. Connect Without Limits. Help Students Experience Education the CSA Way.

Creative STEAM Academy is looking for a passionate, creative, and credentialed Middle School Teacher who believes learning should feel relevant, human, and alive.

This is not a sit-at-your-desk, open-your-textbook, copy-the-notes kind of classroom. We are looking for an educator who can help 5th–8th grade students connect what they are learning to the real world through meaningful conversations, hands-on projects, critical thinking, storytelling, problem-solving, and life skills.

If you believe middle school students learn best through connection, creativity, movement, discussion, challenge, and purpose, you may be exactly who we are looking for.

About Creative STEAM Academy
At Creative STEAM Academy, we do not just teach subjects. We build humans.

Creative STEAM Academy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit learning center in Laguna Woods, CA, serving students through small class sizes, hands-on learning, creative exploration, and meaningful academic support.

We believe education should be personal, engaging, and deeply human. Our students are known by name, challenged with purpose, and encouraged to think boldly, collaborate, problem-solve, and grow with confidence.

Our campus is intentionally different. We value connection over screens, curiosity over passive learning, and real-world application over busywork. Teachers at Creative STEAM are more than instructors. They are mentors, guides, creators, and the heartbeat of our mission.

About the Role
The Middle School ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies Teacher will design and lead engaging, project-based learning experiences for 5th–8th grade students.

You will bring core academic subjects to life by connecting them to real-world situations students can understand and care about. That may look like connecting fractions to budgeting, novels to real-life dilemmas, grammar to self-expression, science to everyday discovery, or social studies to culture, community, and identity.

This role is ideal for a teacher who loves middle schoolers, values creative freedom, and wants to teach in a small-group environment where students are truly known, supported, and challenged.

What You’ll Actually Do
Design and teach hands-on, project-based lessons across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies for 5th–8th grade students.

Create curriculum that connects academic skills to real-world problem solving, communication, critical thinking, creativity, and decision-making.

Bring ELA to life through reading, writing, storytelling, discussion, grammar, research, debate, and self-expression.

Make Math meaningful through budgeting, data, patterns, logic, problem-solving, and practical real-life applications.

Lead Science and Social Studies lessons that connect discovery, history, culture, ecosystems, community, and current-world thinking.

Differentiate instruction to meet students where they are academically, socially, and emotionally.

Use movement, discussion, collaboration, projects, and hands-on activities that help learning stick long after class ends.

Support the whole child by weaving in social-emotional learning, confidence-building, communication skills, and life skills.

Maintain a warm, structured, and engaging classroom environment where students feel safe, seen, and motivated to participate.

Track student progress, adjust instruction as needed, and celebrate academic and personal growth along the way.

Communicate regularly and warmly with families, staff, and school leadership.

Who You Are
You are the kind of teacher students remember years later.

You understand that middle schoolers need structure, humor, honesty, challenge, patience, and connection. You know how to make academic content matter to students who are figuring out who they are, how they think, and how they fit into the world.

You are someone who:

  • Holds a Bachelor’s degree and a valid California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
  • Has experience teaching or working with upper elementary and middle school students, especially 5th–8th grade learners.
  • Genuinely enjoys middle school students. Their energy, questions, humor, and growth do not wear you out. They inspire you.
  • Can connect a fraction to a budget, a novel to a real-world dilemma, a grammar lesson to self-expression, and a history lesson to modern life.
  • Believes students learn best when they are actively engaged, not passively listening.
  • Enjoys designing creative lessons without being locked into rigid scripts or one-size-fits-all curriculum.
  • Thrives in a device-conscious classroom where real dialogue, hands-on learning, and human connection come first.
  • Communicates clearly, warmly, and professionally with students, families, colleagues, and leadership.
  • Understands child development and brings patience, structure, warmth, and emotional intelligence into the classroom.
  • Values social-emotional learning, student confidence, life skills, and whole-child education.
  • Thrives in a small school environment where relationships, flexibility, creativity, and teamwork matter.

What You’ll Love About Creative STEAM

  • Small class sizes of 16 students or fewer, where every student is truly seen and known.
  • Creative freedom to design meaningful, hands-on curriculum.

  • A collaborative team that values innovation, purpose, and heart.
  • A part-time schedule of 2–4 days per week.

  • Hands-on, project-based learning that makes teaching feel meaningful again.
  • The opportunity to work with 5th–8th grade students across ELA, Math, Science, and Social Studies.
